Ritual makes everything more enjoyable. No, I didn't make that up; you can read about it here. I suspect that those of us who regularly write letters have either intentionally or unintentionally developed a ritual to enhance our letter writing experience. My own ritual is simple. I first set out my stack of letters needing response. I then set out my stationery, decide on a pen and ink, then set out the sealing wax, lighter, and seal. Once everything is arranged I make a cup of tea or coffee (tea if I am responding to someone who has sent me a tea bag) then I sit down to write. After my letters are written and envelopes are sealed, I search my drawer for stamps then to the entryway ledge they go to await being put in the outgoing mail the next day. I enjoy this simple order of business. Perhaps I will refine my ritual for greater enjoyment. Things develop over time and with time I will perfect the art. This means that letter writing will be even more enjoyable in the future. Do you have a letter writing ritual? If so I would like to hear about it!
